Sonic Environments: Composing Analogies to Social and Natural Processes.

The Introduction to Electronic Music class will present works in progress: sound compositions that use field recordings and transform those recordings in ways that speak to problems of environmental and racial justice. We will listen to these new compositions and consider decisions taken by the composers as strategies to address important issues. We will discuss when an abstract medium, like electronic music, might function as a call to action, as a witness to injustice, or as an analogy to desirable social systems.
