Tschabalala Self is an African American figurative painter based in New Haven, CT. Self graduated from Yale School of Art in 2015 and has since been concerned with representations of the Black, female body within her body of works. Working across a wide range of mediums that integrate hand-printed and found textiles, drawing, printmaking, sewing, and collage techniques, Self aims to create spaces in which the black bodies she represents can exist for their own pleasure and self realization.
