Wunderlich & Co. hosted James McNeill Whistler\u2019s exhibition \u201cArrangement in White and Yellow\u201d at 808 Broadway, New York, NY in 1883. The exhibition included 51 of Whistler\u2019s etchings from 1879-1880 and his oil painting Nocturne in Black and Gold from 1875.1<\/a><\/sup> Margaret F. MacDonald, James McNeill Whistler. Palaces in the Night: Whistler in Venice. University of California Press, 2001. 117.<\/span><\/span> Whistler was famous for coordinating the color scheme of his exhibitions, and this exhibition is no different. The walls of his exhibition were covered in white flannel, while all the woodwork and furniture in the room was painted chrome yellow. The mantelpiece, implied here, was painted olive green while the hearth tiles were painted yellow and white.The doors were painted yellow to match the decor.2<\/a><\/sup> MacDonald, 115. <\/span><\/span> The guests and attendants were asked to wear yellow; the performance of this exhibition was almost as important as the work.<\/span><\/p>\n
