The most notable relationship they possessed was with the renowned James McNeill Whistler, for whom they hosted an exhibition of Whistler\u2019s Venetian prints show entitled \u201cArrangement in White &amp; Yellow,\u201d<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"5\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004180000000000000000_66\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-5\">5<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-5\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"5\">\u201cThe Correspondence of James McNeill Whistler: H.Wunderlich &amp; Company.\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and his first painting exhibition in the United States, \u201cNotes\u201d \u2013 \u201cHarmonies\u201d \u2013 \u201cNocturnes\u201d in 1889.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"6\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004180000000000000000_66\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-6\">6<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-6\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"6\"> Grischka Petri, Arrangement in Business the Art Markets and the Career of James McNeill Whistler (Hildesheim: Olms, 2011), 465. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0This painting exhibition wowed American audiences with its monochromatic use of pinks and dramatic Whistlerian curation and similarly included what would later be known as arguably Whistler\u2019s most controversial work, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nocturne in Black and Gold \u2013 The Falling Rocket.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"7\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004180000000000000000_66\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-7\">7<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-7\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"7\"> \u201cThe Correspondence of James McNeill Whistler: H.Wunderlich &amp; Company.\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Wunderlich and Kennedy would continue to exhibit Whistler\u2019s art in the United States, as the gallery was the main American contact for the artist.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"8\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004180000000000000000_66\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-8\">8<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-8\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"8\"> \u201cThe Correspondence of James McNeill Whistler: H.Wunderlich &amp; Company.\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Whistler\u2019s relationship with various members of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">H. Wunderlich &amp; Company <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">made Wunderlich one of the biggest dealers of Whistler\u2019s works in the United States for elite American families across the country.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> After Wunderlich died at a young age in 1893, his partner Edward G. Kennedy took full control of the gallery and changed its name to Kennedy &amp; Company by 1912,\u00a0 and to the Kennedy Galleries by 1952.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"9\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004180000000000000000_66\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-9\">9<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-9\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"9\"> \u201cKennedy Galleries to Close, Will Go On as Private Entity.\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Wunderlich and Kennedy\u2019s descendants, including the famous American dealer Rudolf Gerold Wunderlich.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"10\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004180000000000000000_66\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-10\">10<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004180000000000000000_66-10\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"10\"> \u201cKennedy Galleries to Close, Will Go On as Private Entity.\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Lawrence Fleischman came on to the team in 1966, after which his daughter Martha J.
