What is digital accessibility and what does it mean to make your courses more accessible? Over the summer, workshops will be offered highlighting the areas where you can make the most impact on accessibility applied directly to your course in Canvas.<\/p>\n

Five ways you can make your course material more accessible<\/h2>\n

The U.S. Department of Education\u2019s Office for Civil Rights just released a series of quick videos covering topics around digital accessibility in education including these five ways you can improve accessibility in your course.<\/p>\n

  1. Use alternate or descriptive text<\/a><\/strong> for images<\/li>\n
  2. Pay attention to color contrast<\/a><\/strong> (text color, background color)<\/li>\n
  3. Select easy to read fonts that are at least 14pts or higher in size (Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman)<\/li>\n
  4. Create meaningful links<\/a> in context rather than using \u201cclick here,\u201d or \u201cread more,\u201d or using the full url or web address.<\/li>\n
  5. Use built-in heading styles<\/a> to organize sections of a document.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
