Or wondered how you might best make changes based on the comments you read?\u00a0 The patterns that emerge from Bowdoin students\u2019 responses offer possibilities for collectively fostering our development as teachers and for improving students\u2019 learning.\u00a0 Here are five types of constructive comments that are found across divisions, departments, and programs at Bowdoin.<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Students perceive a\u00a0<b>lack of organization<\/b>\u00a0related to overall course or class sessions.<\/li>\n<li>Students express frustration and disappointment with\u00a0<b>class discussions<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Students share that the\u00a0<b>feedback<\/b>\u00a0they receive is not sufficient to advance their learning.<\/li>\n<li>Students communicate that they weren\u2019t\u00a0<b>clear<\/b>\u00a0on what a professor wanted for an\u00a0<b>assignment<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>The students\u2019\u00a0<b>expectations<\/b>\u00a0do not correspond with the course.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"vtbegenerated_div\">These comments and others are good opportunities to reflect on our teaching.\u00a0 Discussions with a colleague, chair, BCLT staff, or associate dean might further help to gain new ideas for how to approach our teaching.\u00a0 Below are some questions and ideas to get started for each of the above themes.<\/div>\n<div class=\"vtbegenerated_div\"><a href=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/baldwin-clt-teaching-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/510\/2023\/01\/5-common-BCQ-comments.pdf\">5 common BCQ comments<\/a><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/baldwin-clt-teaching-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/510\/2023\/01\/BCQ-Reflection-Guide.pdf\">BCQ Reflection Guide<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever read your BCQs and wondered if other faculty have received similar comments?
