Record Numbers of River Herring in Maine Waterways

Alewives and blueback herring, both under the category of river herring, have been observed in record numbers in Maine’s waterways this year. Scientists are attributing this phenomenon to the increase in habitat restoration and dam removal, saying that this supports the success of fish passage projects.
