Grassroots Organizing in Albuquerque:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Immigrant and Refugee Resource Village of Albuquerque.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Founded by two South African Immigrants and completely volunteer driven, Immigrant and Refugee Resource Village of Albuquerque aims to \u201c<\/span>To promote empowerment and provide support to immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable under-served local people in Bernalillo New Mexico [which is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan area], in order to build healthy and productive children and their families, and will promote community involvement in supporting the needs of the families.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0 In addition to creating a supportive and engaging environment, the organization advertises English lessons, student tutoring classes, and adult education classes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This awesome Latino immigrant-led group aims to empower and advocate for immigrant rights in Central New Mexico. They inform immigrants and their families of their civil rights while fostering community engagement. Their website can be translated to english and spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n

New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This volunteer driven organization advocates for Bilingual Education, and acts as a support system for Bilingual educators. It values the connection between community members and school faculty in creating a positive environment for students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Grassroots Organizing in the US:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Strong City Baltimore\u2019s Adult Learning center.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This Adult Learning Center offers English language learning free of charge to adults and children in the community. Most classes are also taught by community members; it aims to increase community engagement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Flanbwayan Haitian Literacy Project.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This New York based community organization focuses on Immigration Education Advocacy and proper high school placement for ELLs by \u201chelp[ing] families navigate the public school system.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Beaverton Literacy Council.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This Portland, Oregon based organization serves those seeking US citizenship, offors adult english literacy classes, and supports ELLs. Volunteers teach classes; the website can be translated into 13 languages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
