{"id":7,"date":"2014-11-10T12:49:31","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T17:49:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014\/?page_id=7"},"modified":"2014-12-12T09:55:22","modified_gmt":"2014-12-12T14:55:22","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-adrake\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This website aims to provide information pertaining to high-stakes testing.\u00a0\u00a0These tests originated in the United States during the 1980s as a result of the publication, \u201cA Nation at Risk\u201d, which\u00a0indicated that education in other countries was of better quality compared to the United States, therefore they were producing larger quantities of educated workers, which improved the economies.<sup>20<\/sup>\u00a0Despite this report, which was produced during the Reagan administration,\u00a0the George W. Bush administration&#8217;s \u201cNo Child Left Behind\u201d mandate perpetuated the problem with the requirement of high-stakes testing in public schools, for students in grades 3-8 and 10-12th in the areas of math, reading and science tests.<sup>20<\/sup>\u00a0Once this mandate went into effect, the negative impacts of high-stakes testing affected\u00a0every aspect of the school realm, from students, teachers and administrators.<sup>21<\/sup>\u00a0This website was established to educate and raise awareness of issues surrounding high-stakes testing and to introduce grassroots organizations that are advocating for change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-adrake\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2014\/11\/Screen-Shot-2014-12-06-at-10.20.48-AM-300x199.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 10.20.48 AM\" width=\"460\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-adrake\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2014\/11\/Screen-Shot-2014-12-06-at-10.20.48-AM-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-adrake\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2014\/11\/Screen-Shot-2014-12-06-at-10.20.48-AM-150x99.png 150w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-adrake\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2014\/11\/Screen-Shot-2014-12-06-at-10.20.48-AM.png 577w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><sup>28<\/sup><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>We don&#8217;t want kids who are good test takers,&#8221; she says, &#8220;we want kids who are engaged, curious, and excited.
