(the capital has 94 school gardens and 46 farmers markets). Their goal is to fight for all D.C. residents to have access to fresh food and powerful education tools. DC Greens advocates and acts on many platforms, but their work directly related to children and schools includes: educating and creating a network of teachers prepared to integrate garden, science, and nutrition programs at their schools; holding farm-to-classroom workshops so that teachers can take garden-based learning and food literacy into the classroom directly (even without a garden), helping students set up their own garden-markets to sell produce to the community; supporting and advocating for the DC School’s Environmental Literacy Plan; and finally providing classrooms with kitchen experiences.12
