{"id":92,"date":"2014-12-11T16:55:58","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T21:55:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-kgilmore\/?page_id=92"},"modified":"2014-12-21T18:29:29","modified_gmt":"2014-12-21T23:29:29","slug":"multimedia","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-kgilmore\/multimedia\/","title":{"rendered":"Success Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some of the past achievements of Boston youth activist groups\u00a0include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Youth AffordabiliT Coalition&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>&#8220;Youth Way on the MBTA&#8221; campaign achieved extended hours and days for the youth pass at an affordable rate, offering more access to public transportation for Boston youth<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"vicTory\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sjrKfE-4NR8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Boston Student Advisory Council<\/strong>&#8216;s proposal to have a district-wide survey for BPS students to offer constructive feedback for their teachers was\u00a0approved by the Boston School Committee in 2010 and implemented in the 2010-2011 school year. This ensures that student voice is heard in teacher evaluations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roxbury Environmental Empowerment Project&#8217;s<\/strong> &#8220;Asthma-Diesel&#8221; campaign, in which they fought to\u00a0reduce harmful pollution from diesel vehicles that is poisoning our community and causing a childhood asthma epidemic.\u00a0In 2011, they got Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital, along with six other Partners Healthcare hospitals, to commit to reducing diesel emissions on all current and future construction projects<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"REEP Asthma Diesel\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/19811453?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>After 3 years of advocacy and action, <strong>Hyde Square Task Force<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;Sex Education in BPS Schools&#8221; campaign has persuaded the\u00a0the Boston School Committee to pass\u00a0a policy that calls for Comprehensive Sex Education in Boston schools and for condoms to be available in every BPS high school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sex In School: Does Ignorance Keep Us Safe?\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6lA09isnXTQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><sup>3<\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2003, when budget cuts resulted in decreased summer jobs funding, the<strong> Boston Youth Organizing Project<\/strong> took action. Through their efforts,\u00a0Boston Connects gave $750,000 to summer jobs, the City Council voted in favor of restoring $1 million dollars of funding from the proposed cuts, the Private Industry Council and Chamber of Commerce of Boston worked to get the number of small business positions up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>\u00a0Sources<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.
