This group seeks to build and strengthen relationships within the community through public awareness, empowerment, and advocacy. The group does\u00a0advocacy training workshops to increase public awareness on the school-to-prison pipeline. The group is currently working on a project called &#8220;100 Stories in 100 Days&#8221; to document\u00a0how the school-to-prison pipeline has impacted the lives of different people.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eja-nc.com\/our_work\">Education Justice Alliance<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-117\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/EJA_logo-300x152.jpg\" alt=\"EJA_logo\" width=\"231\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/EJA_logo-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/EJA_logo-150x76.jpg 150w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/EJA_logo.jpg 483w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>The Education Justice Alliance is an organization in Wake County, North Carolina\u00a0that seeks to decrease unfair suspensions and expulsions. The group also works towards the reduction of harsh discipline policies. They have held rallies, teach-ins, speak outs, demonstrations,\u00a0and community forums.<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillystudentunion.org\/index.php\/component\/k2\/item\/59-intro-to-city-wide\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-118\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/logoClear-150x93.png\" alt=\"logoClear\" width=\"189\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/logoClear-150x93.png 150w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/logoClear.png 258w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/>Philadelphia Student Union<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Philadelphia Student Union in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a youth led organization that demands high quality education in Philadelphia public schools. One of their campaigns focuses on nonviolent school.\u00a0The organization\u00a0hopes that their district will focus more on prevention measures rather than the current over-reliance on exclusionary discipline practices.<sup>3<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.poder-texas.org\/ysj_program.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-73\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/PODER.gif\" alt=\"PODER\" width=\"160\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.poder-texas.org\/ysj_program.html\">PODER (People Organized in the Defense of Earth and her Resources)<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong>PODER is is grassroots organization in Austin, Texas. Although this organization focuses on environmental issues, they also fight for the repeal of zero-tolerance policies. One of their projects is the Young Scholars for Justice where students address education issues like juvenile justice.\u00a0The group surveyed young people on their experience with discipline within their schools and juvenile courts.<sup>4<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.poweru.org\/index.php?page=about-us\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-75\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/powerucenter.jpg\" alt=\"powerucenter\" width=\"180\" height=\"93\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/powerucenter.jpg 175w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/powerucenter-150x77.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/>\u00a0Power U Center<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>Power U Center is a grassroots organization\u00a0based in Miami, Florida. Their four main campaigns include Justice for Trayvon, Powerful Women and Families, End\u00a0the School-to Prison Pipeline, and Restorative Justice. This group stands against the school-to-prison pipeline, zero tolerance policies, metal detectors, and police officers in schools . The Blocks Together Youth Council\u00a0has pushed for Restorative Justice approaches in Chicago Public Schools (CPS).\u00a0They have won the commitment from CPS Office of Safety and Security to pilot a restorative justice training for security guards.<sup>6<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-85\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/curyjlogo1-277x300.png\" alt=\"curyjlogo\" width=\"128\" height=\"139\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/curyjlogo1-277x300.png 277w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/curyjlogo1-138x150.png 138w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/curyjlogo1.png 375w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 128px) 100vw, 128px\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.curyj.org\/policy-advocacy.html\">\u00a0<strong>Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ)<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/a>CURYJ is a group in Oakland, California that trains youth to become leaders and stand up against the criminal justice system. This organization does programming in schools to introduce restorative justice circles and they work with the Bay Area Dignity in Schools Campaign to address the school-to-prison pipeline.<sup>7<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-84\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/YJC_homeHeader-e1418579496225.jpg\" alt=\"YJC_homeHeader\" width=\"271\" height=\"87\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/YJC_homeHeader-e1418579496225.jpg 679w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/YJC_homeHeader-e1418579496225-150x48.jpg 150w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/YJC_homeHeader-e1418579496225-300x96.jpg 300w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/YJC_homeHeader-e1418579496225-624x200.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youth4justice.org\/take-action\/school-to-jail-track\">Youth Justice Coalition<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>The Youth Justice Coalition is an organization in Los Angeles, California that\u00a0demands no police in schools, an end to zero-tolerance policies, and the implementation of restorative justice. Many of their leaders have had some experience with the school-to-prison pipeline and the juvenile justice system. They hope to transform the schools to reflect the communities. The Youth Justice Coalition is part of the Dignity in Schools Campaign.<sup>8<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohiostudentassociation.org\/end_zero_tolerance\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-116\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/education-2272-fall-2014-prubi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2014\/11\/ig.jpg\" alt=\"Web\" width=\"141\" height=\"141\" \/>Ohio Student Association<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>This youth organization is based in Ohio and involves students with various levels of education. The Ohio Student Association believes that every person should have access to a quality education. One of their programs is to end the zero tolerance policy in Ohio. The organization raises awareness about the problems\u00a0produced by the school-to-prison pipeline.
