Daisy calls the child &#8220;precious&#8221; and then asks for the child to perform in front of the guests. Daisy seems to view the daughter as a kind of shiny decoration in the house and not with a typical maternal affection. Important to keep in mind is that the daughter is barely ever mentioned in the novel.
