Las escritoras ecuatorianas residen en un espacio diverso y creciente en la literature latinamericana. Aunque muchas de sus obras son publicadas solamente en español — de las 26 obras que investigamos, solo 9 fueron traducidas a una idioma distinto al español — hay un creciente interés y popularidad en la distribución de estas obras en todo el mundo. Las autoras destacadas de Ecuador incluyen a Mónica Ojeda, María Fernando Ampuero, Natalia García Freire, Gabriela Alemán y Solange Rodríguez, cuyas obras han recibido el Premio Joaquín Gallegos Lara (Rodríguez 2010, Aléman 2014, 2017, Ampuero 2018) que honra la importancia de la literatura a la expresión cultural ecuatoriana, el Premio English PEN (Freire 2021), y han sido nombradas entre los 10 Mejores libros de Ficción del New York Times (Ampuero 2018).
Ecuadorian women writers occupy a diverse and growing space in literature. While many works remain published only in Spanish – of the 26 works we investigated, only 9 were translated into a language other than Spanish — there is growing interest and popularity in the distribution of their works around the world. Prominent authors from Ecuador include Mónica Ojeda, María Fernando Ampuero, Natalia García Freire, Gabriela Alemán, and Solange Rodríguez, whose works have received the Joaquín Gallegos Lara Award (Rodríguez 2010, Alemán 2014, 2017, Ampuero 2018) honoring the importance of literature to Ecuadorian cultural expression, the English PEN Award (Freire 2021), and have been named among the 10 Best Fiction Books by the New York Times (Ampuero 2018).
