Las escritoras Mexicanas que hemos estado investigando la verdad representan gran parte del país. Representan una riqueza literaria de la escritura mexicana. Hemos podido encontrar a autoras de varias partes del país por ejemplo Liliana Blum de Durango, Socorro Venegas de San Luis Potosi, y Fernanda Melchor de Veracruz. También examinamos autoras de la ciudad de México, Guadalajara, Matamoros, Monterrey, y otros lugares. Mientras podemos ver una concentración de publicaciones en la ciudad de México sí se encontró algunas publicaciones en las respectivas ciudades de las autoras. México es un país grande y las ciudades y regiones de las diferentes autoras tienen diferencias culturales. Poder tener una buena circulación por el país nos ayuda a sintetizar literatura contemporánea y mexicana. México es un país con gran densidad de autoras y fue difícil recortar la lista de escritoras. Ya diciendo esto con el ejemplo de las que escogimos, se puede ver un éxito internacional. La mayoría de estas escritoras han ganado varios premios en México y en el mundo. La mayoría de estas autoras también han logrado varias traducciones de sus obras a muchísimos idiomas. Por promedio hay como 2-3 traducciones por obra (obviamente hay algunas con más de veinte e igual otras con cero). Todas las escritoras que escogimos investigar también han tenido varias ediciones publicadas y han publicado más de una obra. En suma, México es un país diverso con muchas autoras exitosas que circulan mucho por el país y por el mundo. Finalmente también notamos que la mayoría de las agencias literarias están basadas en la ciudad de México o incluso en España. Las autoras vienen de varios lugares del país pero se destaca su éxito por agencias en la ciudad de México. Mientras que México es uno de los países más destacados en literatura de la región de América Latina ha sido un fenómeno reciente de tantas escritoras Mexicanas. Nuestro “spreadsheet” donde acumulamos información de las carreras de 20 autoras mexicanas y sus obras originalmente estaba compilada de muchísimas más autoras. El proceso de escoger solo a veinte tuvo que ver con varias circunstancias y fue un proceso difícil. Obviamente es difícil hacer una investigación profunda a demasiadas autoras pero al mismo tiempo la información que sí pudimos tener es algo limitada ante la plétora de escritoras mexicanas. En México, y en toda América latina, es importante notar que las agencias literarias no todas son iguales y tienen niveles de clasificaciones. Las autoras mexicanas también tienen una gran audiencia en su propio país, han logrado fama en varios países extranjeros. Una de las autoras primeramente más destacadas ahorita que investigamos es Fernanda Melchor. El éxito que ha tenido Fernanda se extiende con las traducciones de sus obras a varios idiomas. Temporada de huracanes, su obra más famosa, ha sido traducida y repartida por todo el mundo. En inglés es reconocida como Hurricane Season e incluso llegó a inspirar una película que se puede ver en Netflix. El gran éxito colectivo de estas escritoras ha llegado a poner a México como un país destacado. Igual ha empezado a reconocerse como algo parecido a un boom literario.
The Mexican women writers we have been researching truly represent a holistic view of the country. They embody the literary richness of Mexican writing. We have managed to find authors from various parts of the country, for example, Liliana Blum from Durango, Socorro Venegas from San Luis Potosi, and Fernanda Melchor from Veracruz. We also examined authors from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Matamoros, Monterrey, and other places. While we can see a concentration of publications in Mexico City, some publications were found in the respective cities of the authors. Mexico is a large country, and the cities and regions of the different authors have cultural differences. Being able to circulate well throughout the country helps us to synthesize contemporary and Mexican literature. Mexico is a country with a high density of female authors, and it was difficult to narrow down our initial list of authors. Having said this, with the example of those we chose, one can see international success. Most of these writers have won various awards in Mexico and around the world. Most of these authors have also achieved several translations of their works into many languages. On average, there are about 2-3 translations per work (obviously, some have more than twenty and others none). All the writers we chose to research have also had several editions published and have published more than one book. In summary, Mexico is a diverse country with many successful female authors who circulate widely both within the country and around the world. Obviously, it is challenging to conduct in-depth research on too many authors, but at the same time, the information we were able to obtain is somewhat limited given the plethora of Mexican female writers. In Mexico, and throughout Latin America, it is important to note that not all literary agencies are the same and they have different levels of classification. Mexican female authors also have a large audience in their own country and have achieved fame in several foreign countries. One of the most prominent authors we researched is Fernanda Melchor. Fernanda’s success is extended by the translations of her works into several languages. “Temporada de huracanes,” her most famous work, has been translated and distributed worldwide. In English, it is known as “Hurricane Season” and even inspired a movie that can be seen on Netflix. The collective success of these writers has put Mexico in the spotlight as a notable country with a flourishing and rich literature. It might even be argued that it has begun to be recognized as something akin to a literary boom.
