Kareem R. Muhammed uses Little Brother’s album The Minstrel Show to identify a relationship between mainstream rap and minstrelsy (i.e., the practice of embodying stereotypes imposed upon a group for a separate groups entertainment). Muhammed connects the prevalence of minstrel rap to neoliberal principles. Its purpose is to maintain white supremacist  norms in entertainment industries. Likewise, Black artist struggle with labor market choices, and thus participate in the making of minstrel rap.
