{"id":2,"date":"2019-02-20T07:09:29","date_gmt":"2019-02-20T12:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/sociology-3010-spring-2018\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2019-05-16T12:32:46","modified_gmt":"2019-05-16T16:32:46","slug":"abstract","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/sociology-3010b-spring-2019-lmclaugh\/abstract\/","title":{"rendered":"Abstract (Statement of Topic)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Final Abstract: <\/strong><em>In no more than 150 words, provide the abstract for your <strong>final project<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The current study seeks to examine the role that neoliberalism has played in transforming the marketing industry.\u00a0 Traditional marketing has involved simple print, TV, radio, and mail advertisements.\u00a0 With the emergence of the internet, these methods have become outdated and ineffective at driving sales.\u00a0 As a result, online digital advertising techniques have emerged in which increased surveillance and tracking of consumer data are leveraged to deliver targeted advertisements that are more effective at increasing sales and profit.\u00a0 These cryptic, under the radar techniques give the consumer the false impression that they are making an informed, rational decision when, in reality, they are being manipulated by corporations.\u00a0 Companies now exist whose sole purpose is to develop marketing software to help other companies optimize these digital marketing strategies in order to sell their product in the most effective and efficient manner.\u00a0 This video will demonstrate how the neoliberal logic is deeply intertwined in modern digital marketing techniques through an analysis of historical data in the shift away from traditional marketing strategies, supplemented by case study evaluations of marketing software company products.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Comments:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is very good, Lauren.
