Examines the motivations for academics to translate their work to the public, investigating how scholars might mobilize \u201cobjective\u201d scholarship for political ends. Considers key debates and critiques around \u201cdoing\u201d public sociology from \u201cprofessional sociologists.\u201d Explores the strengths and limitations around practicing public sociology, attending to the methodological and ethical issues around distilling \u201cscientific\u201d research for mainstream consumption.
