For this project we\u2019re going to use drawing as a chance to pause, take stock of our surroundings, and share that perspective with one another (via Blackboard) to help build our new identity as a class. This could be the room you’re living and\/or working in, an interior of your home, the exterior of your home, a view from your home, a neighborhood view, a distinguishing local landscape, a local landmark, etc. This drawing can be from life or a photo, using any drawing media and method of your choice (contour drawing, value drawing, etc.).<\/p>\n
This will be a drawing you\u2019d want someone 30 years or more from now to discover (maybe 52-year-old you) to get a first-hand impression of what it was like living through this historic moment. This can be anything from a personal to a global perspective, addressing the pandemic itself or any of its many repercussions on society.<\/p>\n
Returning to the regular syllabus, and leading toward the last project, this will be a drawing from another artist of your choice (with my guidance), in preparation for the following week\u2019s drawing.<\/p>\n
Likewise a return to something we would have covered had we been together on campus.<\/p>\n
Drawing inspiration from artists like Paula Modersohn-Becker, Kathe Kollwitz, Frida Kahlo<\/strong>, and Charlotte Salomon<\/strong> (from whom I cribbed the title), this will be a portrait or self-portrait that either addresses the present moment (closer to Kollwitz or Salomon) or perhaps creates a more idyllic or idealized vision of the life we might hope for (closer to Modersohn-Becker), or elements of each (Kahlo).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 1)\u00a0\u00a0 Drawing-in-Place \/ Due April 2nd For this project we\u2019re going to use drawing as a chance to pause, take stock of our surroundings, and share that perspective with one another (via Blackboard) to help build our new identity as a class.
