Science fiction is a window into our interpretations imaginations of the future, but much of science fiction is pessimistic and doesn&#8217;t often imagine a sound and ideal future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Radical hope is needed to create the change we need for the future. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-57761297\">Solar punk<\/a> brings back indigenous ways of living in balance with the land, while also acknowledging that technology is here to stay <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> can be used for good.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Linked are some depictions of a solar punk imagined world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.milwaukeeindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/042720_SolarPunkArt_01.jpg\" alt=\"Discovering the Rainbow: Solarpunk embodies an optimism towards the future that our society needs | The Milwaukee Independent\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yesmagazine.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/lazarovic-mvp-1.22-solarpunk-imperial-boy-2.jpeg\" alt=\"Why \u201cSolarpunk\u201d Gives Me Hope for a More Sustainable Future - YES! Magazine\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While researching more about solar punk, I came across a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MS-sJQkr0H4\"> Chobani yogurt ad<\/a> that beautifully depicted an optimistic solar punk future, a future where people living in harmony with the land while also striking a balance between us and nature.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3390\" src=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/world-science-fiction\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/312\/2022\/02\/Screen-Shot-2022-02-13-at-9.26.58-PM-300x146.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/world-science-fiction\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/312\/2022\/02\/Screen-Shot-2022-02-13-at-9.26.58-PM-300x146.png 300w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/world-science-fiction\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/312\/2022\/02\/Screen-Shot-2022-02-13-at-9.26.58-PM-1024x498.png 1024w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/world-science-fiction\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/312\/2022\/02\/Screen-Shot-2022-02-13-at-9.26.58-PM-768x374.png 768w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/world-science-fiction\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/312\/2022\/02\/Screen-Shot-2022-02-13-at-9.26.58-PM-624x304.png 624w, https:\/\/courses.bowdoin.edu\/world-science-fiction\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/312\/2022\/02\/Screen-Shot-2022-02-13-at-9.26.58-PM.png 1340w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This was particularly interesting because I have dislike for any corporation that could be greenwashing and trying to appeal to an audience that cares about the Earth just to make more money. Despite my qualms, this ad, without the company references, was beautiful done and represents solar punk pretty accurately.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The future that I want the children of the future to have, is one like solar punk, where balance is stuck. I will try to fight back against the pressing feelings of helplessness, and turn that frustration into doing what I can, as soon as I can, for the future.
