
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new self-paced course in Canvas created specifically for Bowdoin: Ethical Considerations — Using Generative AI Responsibly at Bowdoin and Beyond.
This course invites the Bowdoin community to explore and critically evaluate the social, institutional, and global impacts of generative AI technologies connecting them to the Common Good.
Faculty and staff can access this course in Canvas on the dashboard or by using the direct course link.

- Environmental Impact
- Human/Labor Impact – Who is Training AI for Accuracy?
- Bias – The Value of Diversity and Inclusion
- Data Privacy and Security
- Copyright and Intellectual Property
- Regulating Artificial Intelligence – Who is Responsible?
- Information, Misinformation, and Verifying Sources
- Academic Integrity- Ethical Use of AI in Education
Here are a few things to know
- Faculty and staff are welcome to browse through the course materials and do the activities, but it is not required.
- If you do decide to complete the course activities, you will earn a “Responsible AI Use for the Common Good” digital badge that you can add to your LinkedIn profile.
- It will be required viewing and completion by students before they are granted access to College-provided generative AI tools (information coming soon).
- Students will be auto-enrolled in the course.
This initiative originated from the Committee on Teaching and Classroom Practice (COTCP) and the Bowdoin Team completing AAC&U’s Institute on AI, Pedagogy and the Curriculum.
