Grassroots Organizations

ASM 

The Autism Society of Maine (ASM) formed as a support group for parents with children placed in a program at Mariah Clark School in Hallowell specifically for children with behaviour and communication disorders. The group assists families impacted with autism through educational resources and communal support.

AYLP

Advanced Youth Leadership Power is a branch of Living Access– a group that aims to create an environment in which those living with disabilities are able to be fully engaged within society in Chicago, IL. Advanced Youth Leadership Program is an advocacy group of young individuals impacted by disabilities who come together to advocate for disability rights in regards to education, the school to prison pipeline, transportation, accessibility, independence, healthcare, and employment.

Michigan Family Voices

Michigan Family Voices if a grassroots branch of Family Voices- an organization aiming to create local leaders to develop positive social change. They strive to create an environment in which children with special needs or disabilities have family support and educational opportunities.

NAMI

PrintNAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, consisting of multiple grassroots advocacy branches around the country that try to create a place where those living with mental illnesses are able to thrive. The Clermont County Branch is located in Cincinnati, OH and                                                  provides educational support and resources to those                                                      impacted by mental illnesses.

SPEDWatch

SPEDWatch aims to obtain educational rights for all schoolchildren with disability from the ages 3 to 21 throughout the state of Massachusetts. They try to stop the root causes of educational discrimination against students with disabilities through activism.

SEPTSA

site_logoSEPTSA is a special education parent teacher student association located in Williamsville, NY. SEPTSA provides educational opportunities for students with special needs in addition to providing families with information through frequent discussions among members.

SNAG

Screen Shot 2014-12-19 at 11.28.18The Special Needs Advocacy Group (SNAG) was formed in the Cheltenham Township School District of Philadelphia by caregivers of special needs children. They provide advocacy, support, and educational resources to students, parents, and teachers.  They aim to create an environment in which special needs children are equally respected, engaged, and challenges as other students within the district.

The Arc Greater Williamsburg

The Greater Williamsburg branch focuses on their local community in achieving the overarching arc goals.
