Introduction

This semester I looked at the Baltimore Movement of Rank-and-File Educators, also known as the BMORE caucus. BMORE is a caucus of the Baltimore Teachers Union (BTU) and is part of the national network UCORE (the United Caucus of Rank-and-File Educators). The caucus is made up of any interested educator in Baltimore who is committed to advocating, protecting and improving public education and to transforming the BTU to a social justice union. Throughout the semester I was moved by Bettina Love’s book We Want to do More Than Survive: Abolitionist Teaching and the Pursuit of Educational Freedom and knew I wanted to focus my case study on a group of radical teachers fighting structural racism and amplifying voices of color. This website details my research throughout the semester including some background information, initiatives of BMORE, and how BMORE has advanced change through participatory democracy and a social justice union approach.
