Western New Yorkers for Public Education supports students in opting out of high stakes testing while also advocating for smaller class sizes, equitable school funding, and diverse curriculums. As they promote on their website, “We recognize children are individuals, with different learning styles and abilities. Our children are not standardized.”

More Than A Score

A coalition of parents, teachers, students and community members fighting against high stakes testing in Chicago public schools. More Than A Score’s action plans include opting out of standardized tests, contacting local elected officials, signing petitions, and connecting with others in the movement.

Change The Stakes

A coalition of New York City parents and teachers. Change the Stakes spreads information on alternative forms of assessment and supports students in finding ways to opt out of high stakes tests.

Parents 4 Teachers

An organization of parents fighting for a better vision of Chicago public schools. Parents 4 Teachers opposes high stakes testing while also advocating for holistic curriculums, small class sizes, well-resourced special education programs, equitable school funding, and supportive work environments for teachers.

Oregon Save Our Schools

A group of impassioned teachers, parents, students and community members in Oregon. The organization disseminates information and hosts monthly meetings to fight against high stakes testing and the privatization of public education. They advocate for more community involvement in the school system and for, “an excellent, well-rounded, and engaging education for all of Oregon’s public school students.”

The Partnership for Smarter Schools 

A grassroots organization of frustrated parents, educators, and community members in New York state. The Partnership for Smarter Schools is, “dedicated to stopping the New York State Education Department from overtesting our children.” They disseminate information on the dangers of high stakes testing and encourage parents to take action.

Raise Your Hand

An alliance of parents and community members across the state of Illinois. Raise Your Hand empowers parents to take action in their children’s schooling. In addition to high stakes testing, the organization addresses issues like data privacy, school funding, class size, and arts education.

Texans Advocating for Meaningful Student Assessment

An organization of parents and community members across Texas. TAMSA advocates for, “meaningful student assessments that provide timely and useful feedback with no high stakes.” From its perspective, the large amount of funds dedicated to high stakes testing is a misuse of resources that could be going towards classroom programs.

Save Our Schools NJ

A group of impassioned parents and community members in New Jersey. Save Our Schools NJ opposes high stakes testing and privatization while also advocating for equitable admission processes in charter schools and greater school funding. Their main principle is to ensure that every child has access to high-quality, democratically controlled, public education.

NYS Allies for Public Education

A coalition of parents, educators, and community members across New York state. NYS Allies for Public Education opposes high stakes testing and the subsequent sharing of student data. The organization works to keep people informed of current and upcoming education legislation and provides resources to opt out of standardized tests.
