Grassroots organizations

Citizens Who S.E.E. is an organization in Coatesville, PA, made up of volunteers who provide free advocacy for parents seeking special educational services for their children. These volunteers attend IEP meetings, help with paperwork, and inform families of their rights.

Mount Sinai Special Education Parent Teacher Organization holds monthly meetings for families featuring guest speakers such as civil rights/education attorneys and neuropsychologists. They are currently working on a project to bring literacy centers to their schools.

KY Supporters for Special Education Access is a new grassroots organization that works to inform parents of available resources and their legal rights. They are also working to increase access to brain balancing centers in their area, partnering with other organizations.

Texans for Special Education Reform partners with Coalition of Texans with Disabilities, Autism Society of Texas, the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas, and other organizations to advocate for high quality education for students with disabilities. It consists of parents, teachers, and representatives from disability service sites.

Calvert County Special Education Parent Support Group uses social media to reach out to a large audience of special education parents who are unable to meet otherwise due to needing to stay with their children. They are currently working on a project to expand training for special education teachers. They are also trying to network with the Learning Disability Association of Southern Maryland to help parents who are part of their group.

IDEAs on Special Education Advocacy works to connect families going through similar processes accessing services for help, support, advocacy, and friendship. They also hold special trainings and meetings.

SouthWestern NJ Special Education Parent Leaders Group is a New Jersey organization where parents can support each other in advising other parents on navigating the special education process. They hold meetings and information sessions where parents learn about their rights as advocates for their children.

Special need parent is a site that gives parents information and advice on how to take care of their child with disabilities. They share current research on disabilities and special education with their followers to keep them up to date on how to get the best care for their children.

Long Beach Area Special Education Parent Forum‘s purpose is to “give parents a place to share information, resources and collectively make a difference by improving the quality of the educational programs and services being delivered to our children.” They use power in numbers to create changes in their district.

Special Needs Parent Support Cypress, TX Area is a group dedicated to sharing important events about special needs with families. Parents also share with each other information about providers and ask each other questions or advice.
