Voyant Visualization

Explorations summary (sort of)

I chose to view my Voyant visualizations at two resolutions: one at a scale of 25 terms and one at 75 terms. My data is incomplete, as Voyant had issues reading at least 10 sites and did not accept Youtube or Spotify links, which is where I got a ton of my data for Music and Speculative Material. However, the visualizations below were able to capture what my mind focused on for reading material throughout this semester. So, let’s take a look.

Voyant visualization (@25 terms)

Let’s start with 25 terms. Notably, music, science, people, and film stick out. Some other big players are brain, organ, and technology. These are all expected, since I always dug deep into the way science is portrayed in movies and music, and I focused my explorations on future technology that are coming soon. More surprising was the fact that policy and organ showed up, and memory did not. I’ve never intentionally looked up anything about policy but my favorite movies have dealt with memory, so this was pretty unexpected. Overall though, I feel like this visualization is pretty accurate (even though I only searched up the organ as an instrument twice; must’ve been some heavy documents).

Voyant visualization (@75 terms)

At the 75 term resolution, newer words show up, especially dealing with branching points from the words at the 25 term resolution visualization. To be honest, I think I stayed pretty consistent with the theme of my searches, which might have backfired because this analysis isn’t really going anywhere special.

This was my mind’s thoughts during the semester. (Again, I looked up Naruto once for a post but it made it. Memory is nowhere, what’s going on? Edit: I checked the terms list. Memory was 92nd, after Facebook at 91st most used term but before Twitter at 97th most used term…)

Here is my top 10 list, which might be more helpful with some filters in place:
