Juliet Halvorson-Taylor ’21Research Abstract: This summer, I interned with the Maine Democratic Party’s voter protection department and with Senator Mark Warner’s office. I assisted both offices with a variety of projects: preparing voter education materials for college students; writing memos about briefings and potential legislation; supporting individuals trying to access extended unemployment benefits; collecting news clips; learning about mail accessibility in Maine; etc. This dual-experience was valuable because I had the opportunity to participate in the work that contributes to a candidate’s campaign and to learn about a politician’s responsibilities once elected.
