Methodology

What kinds of data will you collect (e.g. documents, newspaper articles, photos/videos/visual data, direct observation)? How will you collect your data (e.g. library research, archival research, survey, field research)? How will your data answer your project’s questions?

Deadline: March 29th Friday 5 pm

For this project, I will require two methods of data collection. The first is primary data collection, in the form of interviews with activists. This will provide the basis of the project, which is to analyze these activists’ perspectives on their own activism for the presence of neoliberal ideologies. I plan to use a snowball sampling method, in which I will contact one or two people who I know personally who are involved in environmental activism and Bowdoin, and ask them if they can put me in touch with any other Bowdoin students who may be interested in participating in the study. I will then analyze these interviews, but in order to analyze them, I will need more background research in the form of scholarly research on the subject.

This brings me to the second aspect of my methodology, which is essentially library research to compile a literature review. This will provide me with a framework from which to analyze the findings from my interviews. For this research, I plan on using scholarly articles and possibly books on the subject to provide a thorough background and analytical framework. This will help me to answer the questions by giving me a framework beyond my data to provide a better understanding of what I find in my data.
