Digital Kinetic Sculpture
My final project is a virtual kinetic sculpture. It attempts to visually represent an ever-changing, yet permanent concept in our physical and mental environment – entropy. It governs both matters to a sub-atomic level, yet also characterizes the social and economic behaviors of a human being. I explored the possibilities of using forms, movements, and texture to give a visual simulation of such ideas.
I made the sculpture in Blender, a new tool that I picked up during times when physical sculpting materials are difficult to obtain. I have always wanted to tap into the digital world with my sculpture. It is an alternative experience for me, as now I need to cope with randomness in algorithms and programming processes. In order to achieve the right composition, I had to rely on taking more trials and errors compare to how I used to work straight ahead into a solid preconceived concept.
