Short presentations (starting at noon) followed by table discussions and time to connect and reflect on this semester.
Monday, December 12: Moving from Exclusion to Inclusion: Special Collections and Library Pedagogical Resources with Marieke Van Der Steenhoven, Chuck Dorn, and Sue O’Dell
There are myriad ways to integrate special collections and library materials into a classroom experience to enhance students’ experience of inclusion, whether exploring examples of printmaking techniques, transcribing nineteenth century correspondence to use as mapping data, or investigating the dissemination of a work of literature through the ages. One example from Fall 2022 in Professor Chuck Dorn’s Learning from Nature: A History of Environmental Education in America collaboration with Marieke Van Der Steenhoven in Special Collections will be shared. In addition, Sue O’Dell, science librarian will share some curated library guides on inclusion and equity in STEM.
Tuesday, December 13: Ideas for Effective Groupwork with Whitney Hogan and Katie Byrnes
Faculty will have the opportunity to reflect on challenges students faced this semester in groupwork, share effective design of groups and group assignments, and hear several strategies from the scholarship of teaching and learning and work with restorative justice that could apply to future courses.

Wednesday, December 14: What can we start, stop, and continue with Bowdoin’s faculty development (teaching, research, career) programming? with Dharni Vasudevan and Katie Byrnes
This session will focus on how current faculty development programming can be enhanced, changed or continued in the future. It will be an opportunity for faculty to discuss and share campus and beyond campus resources that support their work as educators, researchers/scholars/artists, leaders, professionals.
Thursday, December 15: Keys to successful plans for breaks and semesters with Tina Chong
This session will briefly address challenges faculty face during any time of the academic year, such as having too many goals for a given time, underestimating the time it takes to accomplish certain tasks, or dealing with unforeseen events. Tina will introduce some key strategies to make your plans more successful and provide discussion questions with the purpose of helping you create a vision for your winter break.
Friday, December 16: Academic Affairs and Student Affairs Reflect on Fall 2022 and Connect with Dharni Vasudevan and Kate Stern
Faculty and staff from academic and student affairs are invited to collectively reflect on their experiences of fall 2022 and make connections with old and new colleagues across our two divisions. Guiding questions will be provided for tables.
