Bowdoin has recently partnered with Academic Impressions, an organization specializing in professional development resources for higher education employees. While they provide a whole host of trainings on a variety of issues for staff and faculty, I am especially thrilled to share this as a resource because of the amount of workshops Academic Impressions has related to diversity, equity and inclusion. These virtual workshops can be a great way to take a little time to explore on your own or with coworkers.
Please take a moment to sign in here and look to see what might interest you. Academic Impressions has hundreds of offerings in a variety of topics of interest, and I hope you will explore many of them. Here are a few workshops you could jump in and try today! (Please log in first in the upper right corner to easily access the following workshops without a fee.)
- DEI Foundations: Intersectionality in Higher Education
- Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable: Engaging in Dialogue about Race and Bias
- Creating Equitable and Inclusive meetings.
Additionally, I will be hosting a few lunch meet ups for folks who would like to connect to process some of the inclusion workshops. The first one will be connected with Global Accessibility Awareness Day in October. I encourage you to take this course, DEI Foundations: Student Disability in Higher Education, and then sign up in Campus Groups to join us for a lunch conversation on October 19th.
Based on some feedback I’ve received, I suggest you follow the directions on our webpage to limit the number of emails you receive from Academic Impressions. Academic Impressions is rightly proud of their offerings, but you might have a better experience if you curate your email correspondence.
Please reach out with any questions, suggestions you have, or topics you’d like to explore together at community meet ups.
Together in creating an inclusive community,
Katy Stern
