What is digital accessibility and what does it mean to make your courses more accessible? Over the summer, workshops will be offered highlighting the areas where you can make the most impact on accessibility applied directly to your course in Canvas.

Five ways you can make your course material more accessible
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights just released a series of quick videos covering topics around digital accessibility in education including these five ways you can improve accessibility in your course.
- Use alternate or descriptive text for images
- Pay attention to color contrast (text color, background color)
- Select easy to read fonts that are at least 14pts or higher in size (Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman)
- Create meaningful links in context rather than using “click here,” or “read more,” or using the full url or web address.
- Use built-in heading styles to organize sections of a document.
Can we help get the work started for you?
This summer, in addition to training and workshops, we have a group of students available to help with the transition of courses into Canvas. These students are trained in identifying ways to make course materials in Canvas more accessible and can help in any way you are comfortable with – freeing up your time.
