Multimedia from Grassroots Organizations

Below are some videos from the grassroots organizations profiled on the previous page.

This video from the “Parent to Parent, Building to Building, School to School” project at UCLA provides insight into the unique challenges that parents who are janitors face in accessing high-quality, affordable child care.30 In particular, the long and demanding hours and low pay present unique challenges that the program is aiming to address.

This video from Raising California Together highlights the importance of family child care providers in early childhood development.31 Child care provider Antonia Rivas talks about how she is able to transform everyday elements of a child’s environment–such as the changing of seasons–into learning opportunities.

The Maine Children’s Alliance posted this video of Federal Reserve Economist Rob Grunewald giving a presentation about the importance of early childhood investments to the Maine Legislative Children’s Caucus.32 Although the video is quite lengthy and data-intensive, it provides quality evidence about the importance of early childhood investments, from both a developmental and economic perspective. This data-intensive approach is consistent with the policy-intensive approach of the Maine Children’s Alliance, as funding for programs is often driven by data.
