Get Yr Rights toolkit

This toolkit was created by BreakOUT! and Streetwise and Safe as part of a national youth network for queer and trans young people who are specifically targeted by racial profiling and discriminatory policing.

“The policing of Brown and Black people begins with the color of our skin, our race, our ethnicity, and our youth, but it does not end there. What is hidden in the official numbers is how NYPD profiles us based on our actual or perceived sexual orientation, and based on our actual or perceived gender expression and our gender identity. Our bodies, our lives as LGBTQ youth are policed.”

– Mitchyll Mora, Streetwise and Safe (SAS)

This is an in-depth resource with case studies, history of queer POC resistance, legal information, and campaign support in an accessible and easy-to-read format. It has sections from “Fighting the Use of Condoms as Evidence” to “Using Art to Combat Stigma and Criminalization” to “Resisting S-Comm.” It is useful for both students organizing themselves to make change and for organizations that serve queer youth of color.
