1000 Mothers to Prevent Violence
1000 Mothers is an organization that was started in 2006 by Lorraine Franklin-Taylor, a mother who lost twin sons to gun violence in 2000. Lorrain Franklin-Taylor started to reach out to other grieving mothers in an effort to provide support and work towards violence prevention. Organizers work to guide family members as they grapple with the trauma that follows the death of a loved one. The organization often hosts community events aimed at violence prevention, such as peace walks.
