Final Project

International security issues in the post-Cold War world are fundamentally different from those confronted during the Cold War. As such, there are few lessons from the past that are relevant for dealing with the challenges of the 21st century. As a group, do you agree, and why?

Final Assignment – Create a Website on International Security

The purpose of this assignment is to work collaboratively with your small group unit to think critically and creatively together about international security and to produce a website together.

Your website will answer the following question: “International security issues in the post-Cold War world are fundamentally different from those confronted during the Cold War. As such, there are few lessons from the past that are relevant for dealing with the challenges of the 21st century. As a group, do you agree, and why?”

Within the template for your group’s website (available via the link to the right), I have created several tabs to help you organize your website. Each tab is discussed below in greater detail. There is no pre-determined format for providing information within each tab and I encourage you to be thoughtful and creative. For example, you can record a short video that offers the main argument and post the video under the tab “Main Arguments & Takeaways.” This semester you have observed some great (and not so great) ways of conveying information online, think about what works well and try to incorporate those ideas when formatting content.

Grading Criteria

All members of a unit participating in producing the website will receive the same grade on this assignment. Pull your weight and work together. Your collective grade will reflect the thoughtful nature of your answer, the innovation, nuance and clarity of your argument and each supporting section (tab), your consideration of key points and concepts discussed in class and readings, your demonstrated understanding of the material, your ability to build from the concepts and readings from the class, your ability to grapple with complexity covered in class, the depth and relevance of historical evidence you offer as support, your ability to understand, relate and analyze issues of contemporary concern, your consideration of counterarguments, the provision of proper citations, and finally, innovation and finally how the material is presented in terms of clarity and creativity. You must comply with the Academic Honor Code. Provide citations for any images, data or other information used on your website.
