This is your opportunity to showcase your progress in Arabic through a freer, unconventional and creative way(s). You are free to choose the theme you would like to address and the way you would like to present it. You have a wide range of ideas that include but are not limited to: poetry recitation, short story reading, Bible/Quran recitation, graphic storytelling, designing a commercial/brochure in Arabic, performing a skit, a stand-up comic scene, or a song of your own ….etc.

However, since you will still be evaluated on the quality of your preparation and performance (6% of your overall grade), you need to put in good efforts and rehearse well prior to the event. Make use of my office hours, Eleanor’s hours and also the sessions with Ustaadha Hanan to practice.

Some Logistics:

• We will decide on a time that works for everyone to hold the talent show.
• Each student will have around 10 minutes to present their part.
• I will help you edit or rehearse your work. You could use one of the conversation sessions towards this as well.
• If you are presenting a translated poem or an excerpt from Quraan, please say the English part first so that all of us could understand.
• Speak slowly and be happy and confident. Don’t speak fast either in English or Arabic. Let your words simmer and slip slowly through the audience’s senses!
• Be performative even if you are reciting or reading something. Let the words act and dance!
• It is ok to accompany your work with an English translation, preferably on a powerpoint or something similar.

You will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

Oral: Performance (100%)

• Good memorization of lines (20 %)
• Well- thought out and rehearsed (20 %)
• Clear pronunciation (20%)
• A good range of appropriate vocabulary (15%)
• Correct use of grammar (15%)
• Fluency and ease (10 %)
