Progress Notes: Week 14

  • Between weeks 8 and 14, each student should provide a weekly reflection (500 words) on the data you have collected to date.
    • What data did you collect?
    • What is your initial impression of the data?
    • How have the data you have collected this week changed/progressed your thinking about your research project?
    • What challenges did you encounter while collecting the data?
    • What are your next steps?

This week, Nicole and I met to tidy up our presentation for Wednesday, and then we met again on Thursday to start on our final script for the podcast. During the work on the final script, we realized our biggest struggle will be narrowing down what material to tackle and touch on, so we scheduled an office hours to hopefully help with this. Our next step is that meeting, and then we already have the podcast studio booked for Tuesday to hopefully churn out our final product. It’s really exciting to see how far this project has come and how much data we have gathered from our interviews and literature review.

When creating the presentation, it was nice to really center our research on Goffman’s work to ground it in sociological theory and also relate back to the project’s greater questions regarding the future of sociology. I think in our podcast we will really be able to establish the stakes of our work and its relevance, which I think could be unclear to our audience at first glance.

I have also finished up my annotations, and will post all of those once I proofread once again!
