Format and Outline

  • Product
    • Describe the form you hope your project will assume (i.e. paper, film, podcast) and a justification for why your selection provides the best approach to present your findings.
    • The end product for my project will be an e-zine (digital zine) that analyzes and observes the artists, messages, visual aesthetics of rap/hip-hop that acknowledges how is music as an accessible and digestible medium for people to obtain and provide sociological insights. An e-zine will be able to grasp the visual (photographs/stills/art or clips from music videos) and, hopefully, the audio (music/song lyrics) aspects of hip-hop that contain sociological insights by non-scholars and how audiences perceive those messages. The e-zine will also contain analysis and observations about the social impact of music and its current influence, as well as the historical context of the influence of music and rap and hip/hop in particular. Additionally, the e-zine will be accompanied by a playlist with the songs included (and not included) in my analysis to represent a musical timeline of past and contemporary societal issues.
