Progress Notes: Week 12

  • Between weeks 8 and 14, each student should provide a weekly reflection (500 words) on the data you have collected to date.

Week 12 Weekly Notes:

    1. What data did you collect?

For this week, I was struggling to choose which subpoints I should include or exclude in my research project. Also, I made a big decision to no longer write a research paper rather creating a website because it would provide a nuance approach to understanding the serious human right violations committed against these women.

First, I scheduled a meeting with Professor Greene where I discussed the possibility of no longer incorporating privatization as a part of my research. He not only encouraged me to still incorporate privatization as a part of my research, but he highlighted how privatization of detention centers enable these abuses to exist. After much thought, I decided to stick with this subpoint and contact the research Liberian to help me find scholarly journals on privatization. We were able to find many scholarly journals and even found some detailing the role of activists in ending it.

    1. What challenges did you encounter while collecting the data?

It is not a challenge, but something I have not explicitly examined is the intersection between race, class, and gender in this project. I need to actively focus on this because it explains how marginalized they are in the system.

  1. What are your next steps?

My next step is to start on the project and create an outline.
