Data and Method

Description of Methods:

I will be using a specific case study, journal articles, online articles, as research methods to employ in my paper. I will examine a specific case study at the Irwin County Detention Centers, in Ocilla, Georgia. The Irwin County Detention Center is well known for violating women’s human rights, which led to the survivors of nonconsensual medical surgeries to file a case-action lawsuit in 2020. By using a case study research method in my paper, it will allow to provide an in-depth analysis on how women become susceptible to medical abuse under ICE custody. This case study will allow me to investigate the inhumane and unethical conditions women are put in.

Next, I plan on including journal articles to also inform my research and allow me to explore the historical background of U.S. detention centers. These research methods I hope to include in my paper, will help me draw on connections and allow me to scope out areas that will support my argument.

Plans on collecting data:

My plan on collecting data is to reach out to the Research Liberians to get some support in finding journal articles relating to key themes: privatization of detention centers, history of them, and specific case study at the Irwin County Detention Center. Every Friday, I have reserved time to meet and work with a Research Liberian to help develop this research project more. I should also be done with collecting data and creating annotated bibliographies, so I can begin formally writing a draft of this paper on April 22, 2022.
