Progress Notes: Week 11

This week, we talked to prof Greene about concerns for our project. We shared concerns that our research might not necessarily answer a concise question or come to a significant conclusion. We realized that our interview-pool was first-generation, low-income students of color. While we extracted very interesting notes and experiences from these interviews, we realized that respondents gave answers that related a lot to culture and/or immigration. To try and diversify our scope, we decided that we should interview at least one more white (non POC) student. This way, we hoped to draw comparisons in the performances that various FGLI students are expected to achieve. Additionally, we decided to expand our scope to include some younger respondents. Though we initially intended to interview senior and junior FGLI students (due to the COVID-19 pandemic and assumptions that younger FGLI students would be less aware of the resources available at Bowdoin), we recognize that there are merits to diversifying the conceptions of Bowdoin that are represented in our interviews. We have come to accept the possibility that our findings will be messy, because this is a messy topic.
