Just breathe
My aleatory project concentrated on the ways in which we can and cannot document the breath. As a process that’s necessary for life and integral for meditation practice, my aleatory project attempts to document the subliminal power of the breath. For one sheet, I traced the line of my breath with pencil during a thirty minute meditation sit. On another, I sprinkled powdered charcoal on the edge of the paper and blew the fragments across the sheet. For the third sheet, I used no materials and just breathed on the surface during another meditation practice. The three sheets together reflect the invisible, meditative and powerful force of the breath.
