Mythological Contours
My project was inspired by mythological creatures, specifically creatures with human parts. (i.g mermaids, centaurs, etc), and drawn with an inspired comic style, using realistic proportions, as well as a more modern/pop culture twist. My method consisted of making micron contour drawings with single color washes on 24 x 16 inch canvases. Later in the process I decided to refine the color and line weight of the figure in an app named “Procreate”. I decided to add an historical description of the figure in the background, in a really subtle color so that viewers wouldn’t focus on the words but the drawing as a whole, allowing the words and image to complement one another. My inspiration come from Marcel Dzama and Kim Jung Gi. One of the challenges of this project was that my initial concept and ideas for materials changed a lot because of working remotely.

Technological Marbles
Technology is like playing marbles, you can either win or lose. For my project I spent three days for around three hours each in the Pub observing how people interacted with each other and how technology affected those interactions. After observing and counting, I divided these interactions into three groups, and assigned them a concentration of ink and water:
- People in groups using their phones/computers: Pure ink
- People alone using their phone/computers: ¾ ink + ¼ water.
- People not using technology and interacting with each other: ½ ink + ½ water
Once I counted the total of each group I dipped a marble inside the concentration of ink and water, and proceeded to put all of the marbles in the middle of a sheet of watercolor paper, hit them and observed the traces they left.
