I was really struck by the parallels to Hemingway and the “Lost Generation”–specifically, his novel The Sun Also Rises (has anyone read that?). Just generally, it seemed like both are stories that are very character and dialogue-driven, without any really significant events in the plot. And the idea that there’s this group of relatively young people that have been damaged in some way, kind of wandering aimlessly, drinking tea and going out at night and searching for connection, seems very present in both works. But to be frank, I couldn’t stand that Hemingway (thought it was horribly boring), and I thought it was funny that the SF setting and elements of the plot make the story so much more interesting. Let me know your thoughts!
