Repulsor Lift Technology

My favorite part about science fiction is the futuristic technology within the stories and the implications it could have today. A piece of technology I’m most fascinated by is the Repulsor Lift, a machine in the Star Wars universe that can be installed on objects, vehicles, spaceships, or even cities to allow them to defy a planet’s gravity and levitate by pushing against a planet’s gravitational force. If this technology existed today, it would vastly change our lives. Commercial travel would be revolutionized by levitating cars and trains, planes wouldn’t rely on the force of lift, space exploration would become exponentially cheaper and easier, floating cities and space elevators could be developed in addition to toys like the hoverboard.

How amazing this tech novum is, indeed! It would be amazing to see it used to facilitate travel, space exploration, etc. I wonder what it might do at a nano level for computing…

Another use of the term “repulsor” in reference to scifi technology is actually Iron Man’s suit in the MCU. Before Tony Start switches to the nanotech suit seen in Infinity War and End Game, the blasts he shoots from the suit’s hands and the way the suit flies are powered by “repulsor” technology. The repulsors are also used in the Quinjet technology (those cool planes that act like planes but can also hover as seen in the Avengers and in Thor: Ragnarok). I think it’s really cool how both of these universes use this technology… and thinking about it, you could even see Star Wars as the far future evolution of Iron Man’s tech!
