El Puente Arts Center is New York’s most comprehensive Latino cultural center, including its original 1982 Williamsburg Youth leadership year-round program, the Bushwick community center for youth below the age of 21, and its 1993 Academy for Peace and Justice, a public school founded in partnership with the El Puente Leaders for Peace and Justice and the NY Department of Education. Founded by Luis Garden Acosta, the center’s mission is to eliminate youth and neighborhood violence by empowering youth to lead their communities in “bridging” activism across health, education, and the arts.
