Grassroots Activism & Action

While many of the organizations and schools I have researched to include here do not explicitly focus on teaching critical ethnic studies with deep and wide cultural focuses, the premises of their founding are in creating spaces for the very students disempowered by the elimination of ethnic studies, thus serving a role as a site of critical engagement with conventional history and teaching. Non-profit organizations encounter the difficulty of lying outside of school jurisdictions, and thus of garnering and maintaining consistent and dedicated members to benefit. For schools with specific curricula designed to teach and empower students in alternate, community-engaged routes, donations and partnerships are an ongoing struggle.
