This week, I have been hustling on the presentation and the final project product. For the presentation, I chose some of the most relevant quotes from the interviews and out them on slides with a brief explanation. I also extracted the three major themes that were prevalent when asking the participants about health. Diet was a very interesting topic given that various people acknowledged that their eating habits were better at Bowdoin due to resources, yet it was very conditional on the environment here. When at home, their actual ability to eat healthy was impacted, not necessarily their desire to. And it is this exact point that mainly differentiated the whole socialization versus acculturation aspect for us in this project. I was pleasantly surprised to see that mental health is now taken more seriously by the participants overall, but was saddened to see that it took so long for these students to finally have this opportunity. It was sort of a triggering point for me that I sympathize with. I grew up with severe depression and was diagnosed but never told my mom until I turned 20 because the pandemic gave me an excuse; in many ways, Bowdoin saved me, and had I not come here, I don’t think I would have surpassed my depression. Anyways, for the presentation, I put all the slides together and would focus more on the analysis section of the actual presentation. In regards to the actual final product, I have been working tirelessly to filter the entire hour long transcriptions of the interviews. I am filtering by extracting quotes that are relevant and categorizing them under each tenet of health as well as adding an analysis of at least a paragraph for each quote. This will be in separate tabs for the website that we are making utilizing Google sites. I also looked at three more sources that touch on health theories, such as how stress is a silent killer. It has been a very lengthy process but overall it is fruitful and also refreshing to know I am not alone in this experience.
