Progress Notes: Week 10

This week, I worked on reaching out to the students I was hoping to interview and for the upperclassmen men, I have the interviews scheduled for this Sunday. However, I also planned to have a mock interview with someone else to see which kinda of questions would arise. This was an interesting experience because a lot of the answers to following questions seem to come about naturally in their responses to intitial questions, so they seemed to have saved me the energy of trying to pick and choose which question. I did find that interviews may definitely surpass the intended 15 minute mark, something I had sort of anticipated anyway. So when I reached out to people, I asked for 30 minute interviews but I am finding that they may be towards 45 minutes or even an hour. This makes me a bit nervous because in my past experience conducting interviews, having too much information can sometimes a) influence nuance that steers away from the topic of focus and b) can be overwhelming with choosing which information to utilize and so forth, so I am going to be considerate of trying my best to stick to less than 45 minute interviews with those I conduct on Sunday.

I have also worked on further looking for sources to utilize, and something I use realized is that all the people I myself am interviewing are yes first generation (college) low income, but also students of color, one who is also first-generation in the United States and now I am questioning to what extent acculturation may play a role in their health because this is something that I have learned in my racial health disparities sociology course and right now I am confused on whether to pay attention to that/ask about it or not.
